Summer mornings are a great time to indulge in coffee (lots and lots of coffee) and fruit! In the summer months I tend to make a quick breakfast and then head out the door to enjoy my food on the outdoor patio with my cat, Stella, who loves to explore the various plants and insects, not too far from me.
What could be quicker or healthier than throwing together a fruity and refreshing smoothie?

I have explored numerous combinations of fruit smoothies. I've used fresh and frozen fruit and produce. I guess you could say that I am looking for the perfect combination of sweet and tart, refreshing and filling, tasty and healthy.

In this recipe I used Wellsley Farms frozen organic pineapple and tropical blend fruit. I also used Wyman's frozen blueberries.
When making smoothies, I like to mix in some chocolate protein powder for an extra nutritional boost. My favorite brand is Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder with Chia Seeds and Probiotics. It is gluten free AND vegan and better yet, it tastes great! What more could you ask for?

This Smoothie Bowl recipe that I made was a lot of fun so let's get blending!

To start my morning right, I grabbed my Cuisinart 56 oz. blender and measured out 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup frozen pineapple and 1/2 cup of frozen tropical fruit blend which included mango, strawberries and more pineapple.

Next, I added in 1 spoonful of Bob's Red Mill chocolate protein powder and 1 Tbsp of MaraNatha Almond Butter.

For an extra boost to this heart healthy recipe, I included another Tbsp of chia seeds which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, potassium, magnesium, fiber and so much more! So pile it on, lovelies!

The last smoothie I made did not include any sweetener and I tend to like my smoothies free from it. However, I also wanted to experiment and try something new! I added 1 tsp of pure maple syrup purchased at my local supermarket.

Next, I added 1/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and 1/4 cup water.
You can't beat 0 grams of sugar and 50% more calcium than dairy milk and a brand that is NON GMO, gluten free, dairy free and soy free.

Now it's time for the fun part - Blend! I tend to turn the blender up to 2 and let it do its job. Occasionally, I may have to pause and take a big spoon to stir the mix to be sure it all gets blended. But once it's done, it turns into this beautiful purple-pink color.

Look at that color - YUM! Now pour it into a medium to large size breakfast bowl and start adding toppings!

My toppings of choice are chia seeds (because is there ever enough?) and fresh blueberries! Perhaps this part is more fun than blending because your creative juices can flow freely when decorating this masterpiece.
I always love to create patterns - whether it's circles, diagonal lines, stripes, whatever! It is truly up to you to make your smoothie bowl aesthetically mouthwatering.

Now comes my absolute favorite part - eating it! There is nothing better than indulging in a fresh, cool and colorful smoothie bowl on a warm summer morning. Enjoy!
